Energy can be obtained from flowing waters in oceans and rivers. Tidal power can use movement of water caused by tidal currents to create electricity. It is a renewable energy and it is considered to be future electricity generation.
Advantages of Tidal Power
The tidal power has many advantages. Tidal power is free once dam and plant is set up. There are no greenhouse gases or other wasters produced by it. The electricity produced by tidal power is reliable and facilities of tidal power are inexpensive to maintain as well. The electricity produced by tidal power is very cheap as compared to other sources. There is plenty of water on earth surface therefore there will be no shortage of electricity produced by tidal power. There will be no worry in producing electricity once dam is built.
Disadvantages of Tidal Power
The biggest disadvantage of tidal power is that there is lots of money required for tidal power projects. The dams can not be built on saltwater environments because of there corrosive nature. The tidal power projects require high tidal range as well. There can be effects of tidal power station on plants and animals in estuaries. There is suitable sight required by wave energy and tidal power and waves are not feasible always. The maintenance of tidal power station is also a difficult task and it requires lots of money. The tidal turbines will depend on tides and sometimes you will produce no electricity if there are no tides.
